United Nations Information Service Vienna
UNIS Vienna (United Nations Information Service Vienna ), completely also referred to as the Information Service of the United Nations, Vienna, is part of a global network of 63 information centers in the United Nations from Accra to Yaounde, part of the Department of Public Information (DPI ) are. Their common goal is to provide the activities and concerns of the public organization and thus to provide assistance to perform the essential functions of the United Nations.
Tours and lectures
UNIS Vienna operates the Visitors' Center at the Vienna International Centre ( VIC ), where one of the four headquarters of the United Nations - along with New York, Geneva and Nairobi - is located. The Visitors Service offers lectures by UN officials about the United Nations ( general overview ) and on the work of the Vienna-based organizations.
Media Accreditation
UNIS Vienna, each year accreditation for media representatives who report on issues within the UN system. Journalists who are accredited to the UN, get access to the Vienna International Centre (VIC ), current information on the UN in Vienna and beyond as well as invitations to events and press conferences in the VIC and more.
Connection with civil society
More than 1,500 civil society organizations with strong information programs associated with the UN Department of Public Information and the UN to connect with people all over the world. The NGO Liaison Service maintains a distribution list with 400 local representatives of non-governmental organizations, research institutions, policy think tanks and civil society initiatives.
Publications and Information Products
UNIS Vienna published a variety of information products through the United Nations and current international issues, including German, Slovak, Slovenian and Hungarian language versions of press releases, background information and explanations of the UN Secretary General as well as information about the work of organizations in Vienna in English and other languages .
Library / support for list of sources
The UNIS Library has a large collection of information from across the United Nations system. Reference Documents, the Security Council resolutions, the most recent sales catalogs, current UN reports and more are available in the library, including the UN Secretary posters and information sheets on a variety of topics. The reference library of the United Nations Information Service in Vienna is for visitors, journalists, students, available ( by appointment ) and all UN staff. A large number of reference materials on all aspects of the UN system is available, in particular on issues of the Vienna-based Office for Drug control, crime prevention and Outer Space Affairs. It is also possible to take a large number of free information materials such as information sheets, reports and posters. The library also offers free sales catalogs in a limited edition. The UNIS Library can also help in the search for UN documents.
