United Nations Security Council Resolution 136

Resolution 136 of the UN Security Council is a resolution that was decided by the United Nations Security Council in the 864th meeting on May 31, 1960 unanimously. She busied herself with the inclusion of Togo as a new member of the United Nations.

Background

After the First World War, the eastern part of the German colony of Togo, the foregone about two-thirds of the area with the entire coast of France (French Togoland ), the western part of Great Britain ( British Togoland ) passed as a League of Nations mandate. The de facto administration was but in the gold coast. After World War II it became a UN trust territory.

In 1957, British Togoland joined to the newly independent Ghana. The French part was given in 1955 by France autonomy. On April 27, 1960 Togo finally received full independence; first head of state was Sylvanus Olympio.

Content

The Security Council announced that it has the recording Togo tested as a novel member of the United Nations and recommended to the UN General Assembly to agree to a recording.

Accession

Togo joined the United Nations on 20 September 1960.
