United Nations Security Council Resolution 502

Resolution 502 of the UN Security Council was adopted on April 3, 1982 resolution, which dealt with the Falklands conflict.

Content and conclusion

She brought the concern about the Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands to express. She called on Argentina and the United Kingdom for immediate setting of hostilities and demanded that Argentina the full withdrawal of troops.

The Governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom were asked to seek a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

The resolution was submitted by the UK representative Anthony Parsons and was adopted by 10 votes to 1, with 4 abstentions.

Resolution 502 was the British government against much because the United Kingdom as Article 51 of the UN Charter could rely (right to self-defense ). The resolution was supported by Great Britain and members of the European Union, which later also imposed an embargo against Argentina.
