United States Citizenship and Immigration Services

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS ) is the central national immigration and foreigners authority of the United States, based in Washington DC and reports to the Department of Homeland Security of the United States.

History

Vorläuferorginisation was the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS ). The INS was subordinated to an authority founded in 1891, and the Ministry of Justice. Responsibility it was for the entry and exit, immigration and naturalization of aliens. The INS was disbanded on 1 March 2003 and has risen in three different authorities of the Ministry of Internal Security. The United States Customs and Border Protection took over the duties of a Customs and Border Control. The tasks of a foreign police, such as the pursuit of illegal immigration and deportation of foreigners was adopted by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The administrative tasks of immigration and foreigners authority took over the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services

Task

The purpose of the authority is the processing of applications, which are associated with long -term Aufenenthalten of foreigners in the United States.

Organization

The Authority is headed by a Director, the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security shall report directly. The Director is appointed by the U.S. President and must be confirmed by the Senate. The USCIS has comprehensively about 250 field offices ( Field Office ) throughout the United States and abroad, eg at the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt am Main.
