United States Coast Guard Academy

The United States Coast Guard Academy ( USCGA to German: " Academy of Coast Guard of the United States ") is a training establishment for officer cadets of the United States Coast Guard ( USCG). The University has its headquarters in New London in Connecticut on the east coast of the USA.

The Corps ( Corps of Cadets ) has regimental strength and is divided into eight companies, each consisting of approximately 120 cadets.

The story goes back to the year 1876. Conductor is a Superintendent of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, since 5 January 2007, Rear Admiral J. Scott Burhoe 39 incumbent.

Curriculum

The cadets regularly attain the academic degree of Bachelor of Science with a successful conclusion.

Practical training:

Each student is required to spend five weeks on board the sail training vessel Eagle ( WIX -327 ).

  • G. William Miller (1925-2006), graduate year 1945, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board ( 1978-79 ) and Minister of Finance of the United States ( 1979-1981 )
  • Bruce Edward Melnick, graduate year 1972, the first astronaut of the USCG
  • Daniel Christopher Burbank, graduate year 1985, the second astronaut of the USCG (1996 )
  • Admiral Thad W. Allen, graduate year 1971, 23 Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard.
