United States elections, 2002

The elections in the United States in 2002 were held on November 5th. The choice was at the federal level, a mid-term election (English midterm election ), because it was exactly between two presidential elections. Were elected:

  • All 435 seats of the House of Representatives, see Election to the House of Representatives of the United States in 2002
  • 34 of the 100 seats in the Senate (Class II ), see election to the Senate of the United States in 2002
  • The governors of some states
  • Many parliaments at state level
  • As well as some legislatures at local level

Overall, the Republican Party emerged as the winner of the elections. In the Senate, they could regain their majority, to expand in the House of Representatives. The 108th Congress began its work on January 4, 2003.
