United States Park Police

The United States Park Police ( USPP ) is the oldest U.S. police authority of the federal government. Its headquarters are in Washington, D.C. and reports to the National Park Service, which in turn belongs to the Ministry of the Interior of the United States. The officers are armed and uniformed as a rule.

The story goes back to the year 1791, as set up by President George Washington Park Watchmen for the District of Columbia. The present name has only existed since 1919.

Tasks

In all areas of the National Park Service of the large national parks to the mostly small National Historic Site, the National Park Service shall exercise the police power itself off. The enforcement of the ban on hunting and other parking regulations was the first and original task in the oldest national park, only later were added visitor information and further functions. To this end, each site has Ranger, which are designed as Law Enforcement Officers.

The United States Park Police shall exercise the police power only in the areas of the National Park Service in Washington DC., In New York City and San Francisco. In Washington, the National Park Service has a particularly large, contiguous or nearby areas, responsibilities in New York City and San Francisco have developed historically.

The USPP has since 1975 a special task force, the United States Park Police Special Weapons and Tactics team. Base of 1973 established Aviation Unit is the Anacostia Park in Washington, DC (Eagles ' Nest ). Currently, it has an air fleet of four helicopters.

The Department Field Office Division is divided into the San Francisco Field Office and the New York Field Office.

Others

The training of civil servants will be held in Brunswick ( Georgia) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center ( FLETC ).
