The University of Antioquia (in Spanish " Universidad de Antioquia " - U. de A. ) is the oldest public university in Colombia, whose founding dates back to the year 1803. It is the most important university in Departemento Antioquia and has, in addition to its headquarters in Medellín also locations in Caucasia, Puerto Berrío, Amalfi, Segovia, Yarumal, Santa Fe de Antioquia, Carmen de Viboral, Andes and Turbo. The theater was founded in 1969, the University has over 1500 seats. It is available to the public.

Since 1929 the University published with the Editorial Universidad de Antioquia a bislnag around 350 titles strong book series. It includes major contributions of the contributions of members of the institution to the humanities and social science subjects.
The library was founded in 1803. It has 6 branch libraries on an area of 12,008 m² over a wide range. This includes more than 650,000 reference books.
In addition, the university has four schools ( Microbiology, librarianship, languages and nutrition) and four institutes ( physical education, philosophy, area studies and policy studies). In addition, the University has since 1982 a private TV channel.
