The University of Applied Sciences Fachhochschule Rosenheim (short Rosenheim University - formerly Fachhochschule Rosenheim) was established on 1 August 1971. She is primarily known for its Faculty of Wood Technology and Construction.

Precursor of the university was the private Holztechnikum, which had been founded in 1925, among others, from Rosenheim sawmill owners Hugo Laue ( 1869-1956 ) at the Max - Joseph -Platz 20. In May 1925, the school had 22 pupils, the evening course for masters and mates visited 12 people. In 1943, she was nationalized.

In 1950, the timber industry studies and course sawmill technology were introduced. The following year, renamed the State Holztechnikum Rosenheim / State School of Engineering took place. An engineering study of six semesters was introduced in 1953. 1958 Exercise and test facilities were built on the site of today's university. A new focus came in 1967 with the plastics processing time.

1969, a new study building in the Marie Berger road was built. The following year, the higher business school was opened. In 1971, together with the entry into force of the Bavarian University Education Act the existing schools and courses of study to the State University of Applied Sciences Rosenheim with the departments of General Studies, Business Administration, wood engineering and plastics technology. In 2003, the city of Rosenheim named the adjacent street Am Scharnhorst into College Road. In the winter term 2004/ 05 a program was introduced to the Master of Science in the Department of computer science.

Since the winter semester 2010/11 exists in the faculty ' of Natural Sciences and the Humanities ' of course ' Energy and Building Technology '.

With the timetable change was on December 9, 2012, the new university - stop on the railway line Rosenheim - Mühldorf in operation.

A team from the University finished the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 to second place.

Within the framework of the Excellence Initiative 2012, the University of Rosenheim was named partner of the Technical University of Munich by their pioneering collaboration in fields of wood technology, wood construction and energy efficiency.
