The University of Burgundy (French Université de Bourgogne ) is a public university in eastern France. It is a relatively young university and was founded in 1971 as part of the reorganization of the French higher education system by the Loi Faure. It is named after the historic landscape of today's Burgundy or France's Burgundy region. Your seat it has in the regional capital Dijon.

History

The University of Dijon, founded in 1722 acquired for Germany and the German legal education during the French period of considerable importance, since the introduction of the new Civil Code Napoleon suggesting the same study in the occupied areas of Germany. Dijon in 1806 by Napoleon declared one of the focal points of the French legal education. Many German students completed this part of their studies in France Dijon themselves, and so was during the time of the Empire from 1809 to 1813 also a center of German legal education in France.
