University of Cape Coast

The Ghanaian University of Cape Coast (German University of Cape Coast ) (short: UCC) is one of the few universities worldwide that are located on the coast. Here, the campus was built near the town of Cape Coast on a hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Approximately 17,000 students are enrolled as control students, more than 20,000 students take absent students at a Distance Learning Program.

History

The UCC was founded as the University College of Cape Coast on December 15, 1962, a special relationship with the University of Ghana. On 1 October 1971, the UCC was raised to the status of a university by the Law University of Cape Coast Act 1971 (Act 390). In 1962 155 students were enrolled at University Collage. Today, 37,000 students study ( including 20,000 in the Distance Learning program ) at the University.

Originally, the University College was founded as a training center for the training of teachers. But since then, various other areas of education and institutes were opened. At the UCC now courses in management sciences, tourism, economics, educational sciences, commerce, agriculture, ophthalmology, laboratory technology, constitution and democracy, music and theater, computer science and information technology are offered. Since August 2007, a medical school exists. The establishment of a Faculty of Law is in preparation.

The UCC is a member of the Association of African Universities ( Association of African Universities (AAU ) ) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities ( Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU ) ).

Faculties

The UCC is divided into eight faculties.

In the Faculty of Arts, the Departments of African Studies, Classics and Philosophy, English, French, Ghanaian languages ​​, history, music and religion and ethical values ​​are divided.

The Faculty of Education is comprised of the departments of Arts and Social Sciences Education, Education Associations, Health / Sports / regeneration, elementary education, science and mathematics, education and technical education. The center for the development of primary education in Ghana (Centre for Research on Improving Quality of Primary Education in Ghana ), the Centre of Higher Education (Centre for Continuing Education ), the Institute of Education Planning and Administration ( Institute for Educational Planning and Administration) and the Department of Education ( Institute of Education ) are subject to this faculty.

The Faculty of Social Sciences organized the departments of African and general studies, economics, geography and tourism, and sociology. Furthermore, the Centre for Development Studies (Centre for Development Studies ) this faculty is assumed.

In the Faculty of Agriculture, the departments of agriculture economic and business development, agricultural engineering, Animals (English Animal Science ), cereals (English Crop Science ) and floors (English Soil Science) are summarized.

In the Faculty of Biology, the Departments Biochemistry, natural history and wildlife, environmental sciences, fisheries and marine biology, human biology were organized.

The Department of Physics is divided into the departments of African Virtual University, Computer Science and IT, environmental science, occupational technology, mathematics and statistics, optometrist and physics. The Centre for Laser and fiber optics is ( Laser & Fibre Optics Centre) located here.

The Business School is divided into the departments of corporate accounting and finance, and management.

Ultimately, the Faculty of Medicine was opened in August 2007.

Centre for International Education

The UCC in an international student exchange program with universities in Europe, North America and other African countries. A variety of international students live on campus and take part in the lectures.

Campus

The campus of University is about 5 kilometers west of the capital of the Central Region Cape Coast located. It is in the southern campus, which is also the older campus, and divides the northern campus.

The students are housed in six different guest houses. These are the Adehye Hall, Atlantic Hall, Casely Hayford - Hall, Nkrumah Hall, Oguaa Hall and Valco Hall.

On campus, one of the largest libraries of Ghana is located.
