The University of Catania (Italian: Università degli studi di Catania; Latin: Siciliae General Studies ) is a university in Catania ( Italy).
Founded in 1434 is the oldest university in Sicily. In the early centuries it was referred to as Siculorum school. With over 60,000 students, it is also the largest of the island.

Some faculties are housed in the former convent of San Nicola. On the 3rd floor of the building is the university library. This also keeps the original manuscripts of the writer Giovanni Verga.
