The University of Granada ( Spanish Universidad de Granada, UGR ) is a university in the Spanish city of Granada. It was founded in 1531 and is organized in 17 faculties.

History

1526 College for the study of logic, philosophy, theology and canon law at the initiative of Emperor Charles V in Granada was founded. The College was raised in 1531 by a papal decree Clement VII for general studies. The new university comprised the faculties of theology and the arts ( artes ) and of canon law.

In recent years, the University of Granada experienced the most dynamic growth of its more than 480 -year history. This was made possible by the University Reform Act (LRU ) and the university autonomy. Around 80,000 people work or study at the University of Granada.
