University of Harderwijk

The University of Harderwijk (Dutch: Universiteit van Harderwijk, Gelderland also Academy and Académie des Doms Vorst Gelre en Graafschap Zutphen ) was a Dutch university in Harderwijk in the province of Gelderland, which existed from 1648 to 1811.

The emergence of the University Harderwijik goes back to the 1600 founding of the Gymnasium Illustre was. The then governor of Gelderland Friedrich Heinrich decided to expand this high school to college in June 1647 and reached on April 14, 1648, inauguration of the Academy. On October 22, 1811, the Gelderische University was abolished by imperial decree of Napoleon Bonaparte. After the liberation of the French troops was on August 2, 1815 School Reich Athaneum which, however, was not viable and was closed on 13 June 1818.
