University of KwaZulu-Natal

The University of KwaZulu -Natal (English University of KwaZulu- Natal, UKZN short ) is a university in the province of KwaZulu -Natal in South Africa. It was created in 2004 ( in the 1970s founded ) by merging the two largest educational institutions of KwaZulu -Natal, the University of Natal (1910 based) and the University of Durban - Westville.
Organization
The university is headed by a Vice - Chancellor, the Executive Management are the other six Deputy Vice-Chancellor, a managing Dean, a managing director and a CFO. The Registrar is responsible as the highest representative of the University for the award of degrees. The line is the University responsible, which defines, together with the Senate guidelines, and is responsible for financial planning and academic affairs.
The University is divided into four colleges: College of Humanities ( Humanities ), College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science (agriculture, engineering sciences, natural sciences ), College of Health Sciences ( Health Sciences ), College of Law and Management Studies ( Law and Economics ). The individual colleges are further divided into schools.
The faculties are divided into different campus areas:
- Howard College Campus, Durban
- Pietermaritzburg Campus, Pietermaritzburg
- Westville Campus Westville
- Nelson Mandela Medical School, Durban
- Edgewood Campus, Pinetown
During apartheid, the University of Natal was approved only for whites, although there were efforts to allow students of other ethnicities. The University of Durban - Westville was originally founded by the apartheid regime for the Asia -born population.
