The University of Leicester (English University of Leicester) is a university in Leicester [ lɛstə ], England. Founded in 1921, is now regarded as a research university and is divided into five faculties.
The university has 23,000 students in 2010. Around 6,000 of them use the university as a distance learning university; the second largest number in England, according to the Open University.
One of the most famous discoveries of the University of Leicester is the DNA analysis, which was developed in 1984 by Sir Alec Jeffreys.
