University of Louisiana at Lafayette

(Also known as UL Lafayette, Louisiana - Lafayette, or UL) The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is a public university in Lafayette, Louisiana. With 17,075 students, it is the largest and oldest site of the University of Louisiana System. It is the second largest university in Louisiana. The university is particularly well known for their research and teaching in the fields of computer science and evolutionary and environmental biology.
History
The UL Lafayette was founded in 1900 as Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute. 1921 this in Southwestern Louisiana Institute was renamed. In 1960 another name change to University of Southwestern Louisiana. Got its name, the university in 1999.
Sports
The sports teams of the UL Lafayette are known as the Louisiana Ragin ' Cajuns and take part in the Sun Belt Conference.
