The University of Malaya ( Universiti Malaya Mal, Eng. University of Malaya) in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur is the oldest university of the country. The motto of the University is " ilmu punca Kemajuan " ( Knowledge is the key to success ).

History

The University of Malaya has its origins in the King Edward VII College of Medicine and Raffles College, founded in 1929 created in 1905. Both colleges were merged in October 1949 to the University of Malaya, based in Singapore. Due to the rapid growth of the University in its first decade in 1959 two autonomous branches were established, one in a Kuala Lumpur, which retained its name until today. In Singapore, which would later become the National University of Singapore, and In 1962 the two branches independent public universities.

Organization

The university is headed by the Chancellor, three Pro- Chancellors, the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice - Chancellors four, the treasurer, the director of the Record, the Director of the Library and the Director of University Malaya Medical Centre. The Chancellor and the three Pro- Chancellors are honorary positions and are staffed by well-known personalities, while the full-time management of the University is headed by the Vice-Chancellor. The entire university management is overseen by a board of directors.
