The University of New South Wales ( UNSW, Germany: University of New South Wales ) is a university in the Australian city of Sydney. It was founded in 1949 and today has approximately 40,000 students. The main campus is located in the eastern part of the city in Kensington.

Today, the UNSW is one of the most prestigious teaching and research institutions in Australia and is part of the Group of Eight (German: Group of Eight ), the association of eight leading Australian universities. It has a particularly good reputation in engineering disciplines. According to the Times Higher Education Supplement ( THES ) UNSW is one of the top 20 universities worldwide in engineering sciences; the MBA program at the Australian School of Business is ranked 39th, the University as a whole was ranked the world by THES 2006 ranked 41 and Newsweek ranked 64.
