The University of Poitiers (French: Université de Poitiers) is one of the oldest universities in France, located in the city of Poitiers, about 24,000 students ( including 3,000 foreign students ) and 2,300 academic staff. President ( = Rector ) of the University 's Yves Jean.

History

The University of Poitiers was founded in 1431 by a papal bull by Pope Eugene IV and King Charles VII of France and then consisted of the five faculties of theology, martial law, civil law, medicine and the arts. In the 16th century, the University of Poitiers developed next to the University of Paris the second most important university in the country.

Faculties

The University of Poitiers, the Group today 14 teaching and research units ( UFR ), Institutes and Schools, and offers degrees in over 200 fields of study.

The University also holds the École Nationale Supérieure d' Ingénieurs de Poitiers.

When carried out in 2005 university ranking of the magazine " L' Étudiant " occupied the Law, University of Poitiers nation's second place.
