The University of Split (Croatian: Sveučilište u Splitu; Latin: Universitas Studiorum Spalatanensis ) is a public university founded in 1974 in the Croatian port city of Split. The University of Split is like many other universities in Southern Europe growing strongly; Completed in 2006, the new University Library Split, designed by the Croatian architect Jurica Jelavic, holds a total area of 8,600 m², among others, a 500 reading places comprehensive underground reading room.
