University of the Highlands and Islands
The University of the Highlands and Islands has emerged from the UHI Millennium Institute ( UHI ) on February 2, 2011, a consortium of 13 colleges and research institutions in the area of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
History
In April 2001, the Scottish Parliament had given the then UHI university status, and this offered after training courses at the university level to.
Many of the 13 faculties and research institutes of the University have a long history, the oldest research institution The Scotish Association for Marine Science was founded in 1887.
Organization
The following faculties and research institutions are united in the UHI:
- Argyll College (founded in 1997)
- Highland Theological College (founded in 1974)
- Inverness College (founded in 1960)
- Lews Castle College (founded in 1953)
- Moray College (founded in 1971)
- NAFC Marine Centre (founded in 1988)
- North Highland College (founded in 1951)
- Orkney College (founded in 1995)
- Perth College (founded in 1961)
- Sabhal Mòr Ostaig (founded in 1973)
- SAMS (Scottish Association for Marine Science ) (founded in 1884)
- Shetland College (founded in 1970)
- West Highland College (founded in 2010)
The faculties and research institutions spread across 50 learning centers in the Highlands, on the islands and Moray and Perthshire
