The University of Utah ( also called The U U of U or UU ) is a state university in Salt Lake City in the U.S. state of Utah. Currently, 29 192 students are enrolled. The school is particularly known for its research and teaching in the fields of computer science, medicine, and population biology. History

The University of Utah was founded on February 28, 1850 by Brigham Young, the prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints ( " Mormons " ), then known as the University of Deseret. Only two years later, the university was forced to close for financial reasons. In 1867 it was reopened as a commercial college in 1894 and received its current name. Since 1900, the campus is located two miles east of downtown.

The University of Utah in 1969 took part in the Arpanet, the forerunner of today's Internet. This makes it one along with three other research institutions to the first four participants who were connected with Internet technology.
