The Veterinary and Pharmaceutical University Brno ( Czech Veterinární a farmaceutická univerzita Brno, English University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno) in Brno is a College of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy.

History

The university was founded as a " Veterinary College " in 1918 and was the first new Czechoslovakia after the First World War. Model was the Veterinary University Vienna, today's University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. Founding director was Prof. Edward Babák. 1919 worked the university in 18 departments and clinics. From 1952 to 1968, the Veterinary University of the Brno University of Agriculture was assumed.

In 1994, the Veterinary College was renamed to the current " Veterinary and Pharmaceutical University in Brno ". As early as 1992, the Institute for Veterinary Medical Education was established.

The Kaunicer halls of residence for 500 students were built in 1922/1923 and after Count Kaunitz ( Dr. iur. Václav z Kaunic ) named. Since 1978, the buildings are a national cultural monument.

The VFU is the editor of the scientific journal "Acta Veterinaria Brno ".
