Unter St. Veit (Vienna U-Bahn)

The station Unter St. Veit is a station of the Vienna U -Bahn line U4 in the 13th district of Vienna Hietzing. It is named after the former Viennese suburb Unter Sankt Veit, which lies south of the station in the 13th district.

The station extends parallel between the bed of the river Wien and the busy Hietzinger Kai and has an exit at the eastern end of the arboretum bridge over the river, where an interchange with bus number 47A is.

History

Originally, the station belonged to the upper Wiental ( between the train and the station Hütteldorf Meidling main street) and was called Unter St. Veit- tree garden. The opening took place on 1 June 1898. 1910 a porch was built. On 21 February 1945, the station was completely destroyed by a bomb, causing the original architectural character of the station with the typical elements of Otto Wagner was lost. Therefore, the trains ran until 1947 without stopping by, until February 14 in the direction Meidling and until March 4 in the direction Hütteldorf. The reconstruction took place in a simplified form, but the old foundations were reused, making the outline of the old station building corresponded. Therefore, the station in the late 1970s and early 1980s was completely rebuilt during the conversion to underground operation using the panel system of the group of architects Metro and opened on 20 December 1981. On the west side is also a B6 station of the power stations was built.
