Upper Niumi
Upper Niumi ( spelling variant: Upper Nuimi ) is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative divisions - the West African nation of Gambia. It is one of six districts in the North Bank Region.
According to a calculation by 2013 there live about 26.786 inhabitants, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 24,940.
History
The name is derived from Niumi, a former small kingdom.
1977, the district was divided Niumi, with which the present districts of Upper and Lower Niumi emerged.

Population
According to a survey of 1993 ( former census ), the largest population group, the Mandinka with a share of around four -tenths, followed by the Wolof and the Fulani. The distribution in detail: 39.2 % Mandinka, Fula 18.4%, 30.8% Wolof, Jola 1.6%, 0.6 % Serahule, 4% Serer, Aku 0%, 3% Manjago, 1.5 Bambara % and 1% other ethnicities.
