Upper Silesian Railway

The Upper Silesian Railway Ltd. ( OSE) was a private railway in Prussia. It was founded in 1841 and built in 1847, completed standard gauge main line route Wrocław - Kosel - Myslowitz.

From 1851-1855 the same company also built a narrow- gauge lines in the track width of 785 mm already used by several industrial railways of the Upper Silesian coalfield.

Operating history

The section from Wroclaw to Ohlau went on 1 April 1842 in operation, the Kosel station in Kędzierzyn was reached in November 1845 Gleiwitz in October 1846, Myslowitz on 18 October 1847.

1856 opened the OSE an additional route from Wroclaw to Poznan ( Poznań) and took over the management of the north subsequent Stargard - Poznań railway.

1857 took over the Prussian state railway operation on all full- gauge lines of the OSE on their behalf, on 1 July 1886, it was transferred to its possession.

Historical Significance

Mid-19th century, the track was a centerpiece of the European railway networks. On the one hand they had in 1846 completed Niederschlesisch - märkische railway link to Berlin and to the north-west European rail network. On the other hand, she was connected to both of the Cracow - Silesian Upper Railway (13 October 1847) as well as the route Cosel Odersberg the Wilhelm train (1 September 1848) with the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway to Vienna. At the Cracow - Silesian Upper rail also the Warsaw - Vienna railway was tethered in the Russian Congress Poland from 1848.

1847 needed the trains for the 196.3 km long route 6 ½ hours. Today, the section between Wroclaw and Opole part of the PKP Route No. 132 ( - Pyskowice ( Peiskretscham ) - Opole - Bytom ( Bytom ) ( interrupted) Wrocław ) and the European main axis E 30 The section of Koźle to Katowice is part of the PKP route No. 137 (Katowice - Legnica ( Liegnitz ) ).
