Urmas Paet

Urmas Paet ( born April 20, 1974 in Tallinn) is an Estonian politician. He's since April 13, 2005 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia. Paet is one of the classical liberal reform party to ( Reformierakond ).

Life and Politics

Urmas Paet to 1996 studied political science at the University of Tartu. From May 1991 to September 1994 he was an editor at the public broadcaster Eesti Raadio before he worked as a journalist at the Estonian daily Postimees 1994-1999. From 1999 to 2003 he was mayor of the Tallinn district Nõmme. From April 2003 to April 2004 was Paet Minister of Culture of the Republic of Estonia in the government of Juhan Parts.

On 13 April 2005, he was sworn into office in the government of Prime Minister Andrus Ansip as Foreign Minister. He has held since March 2014 in the social-liberal coalition government under Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas The same office.

Private life

Urmas Paet is married to the Estonian philologist Tiina Paet and has two daughters. Besides his native Estonian Urmas Paet also speaks Finnish, Russian, German and English.
