Urmas Reinsalu

Urmas Reinsalu ( born June 22, 1975 in Tallinn) is an Estonian politician. He is Chairman of the Conservative Party Isamaa yes Res Publica Liit (IRL ).

Life and Politics

Urmas Reinsalu 1993 defined his high school in Tallinn. Until 1997 he studied law at the University of Tartu. He has been politically active since 1992.

1996/97 Reinsalu was a speaker at the Estonian Ministry of Justice. He was also a member of the Constitutional Commission. 1997/98 he was a domestic policy adviser to the Estonian President Lennart Meri. From 1998 to 2001 Reinsalu headed the Estonian presidential office.

Then Urmas Reinsalu went into the active party politics. 2001/2002 was Reinsalu political secretary of the conservative new party Res Publica. The party was united in 2006 with the Homeland Union ( Isamaaliit ) for Isamaa yes Res Publica Liit (IRL ). Since 2002 Reinsalu a member of the party executive.

From 2003 to 2012 Reinsalu was a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). By May 2012, he was leader of the IRL.

In January 2012, Urmas Reinsalu was chosen as the successor of Mart Laar as party leader of the IRL.

11 May 2012 Urmas Reinsalu was appointed as the successor of the diseased Mart Laar of President Toomas Hendrik Ilves as the new defense minister of the Republic of Estonia. He took office on 14 May. Urmas Reinsalu retired at the end of the ruling coalition from the Cabinet on 26 March 2014.

Private life

Urmas Reinsalu is married and has two daughters.
