Formation

After the end of the 2007 Tour, which led, among other things, on the Wacken Open Air, a large part of the songwriting was completed in January and February 2008, on an individual basis. According to the guitarist Kaoru, this served to a greater variety of songs to ensure and try something new. The official recordings of the new album were targeted for early 2008, but was postponed to March 2008. Recordings of the first songs started in the spring at the Sony Building in Tokyo. For the recordings, new instruments such as the mandolin, congas, electric sitar and Biwa were used to create a unique sound. Singer Kyo focused on screaming less to allow a softer composition. For the album Kaoru tested and the number of guitar models and recording techniques, so among other things, some guitars were recorded directly from the amplifier. The singles Dozing Green and Glass Skin that were part of the creative process of the album, are also on the album, but were re-recorded it in English.

Promotion

The California radio station Indie 103.1 was given an exclusive play songs from the new album on 19 and 26 October and 2 November. To this were Red Soil, Dozing Green, Glass Skin and Gaika, Chinmoku ga Nemuru Koro chosen. During the promotion of the album was the song Stuck Man called Third Time Does the trick, the name was not changed for the final track list.

For the first time in the band's history an album was first released in the United States. The album came there as a digital download, as a standard CD, a limited edition and a 12 " LP with a card to download the album out in Japan three different versions were released: .. Standard, Limited and Deluxe The number of deluxe versions was limited, they could only be acquired through pre-orders. the release in Europe began on 12 November by Gan -Shin. the Regular Edition contains only the album's songs, while the Limited Edition includes three bonus tracks.

The promotional tour Relentless Tour '09 was from Kerrang! organized and led by bands such as Mindless Self Indulgence, Bring Me the Horizon and Black Tide by Ireland and the United Kingdom. In February 2009, the Tour 08 The Rose Trims Again DVD was released in the summer found the 09 Feast of V Senses tour in Japan, and instead further appearances at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park.

Style

According to guitarist Kaoru, the album is darker and heavier than previous albums and would also include religious and oriental moods, the hard and heavy atmosphere of The Marrow of a Bone but should give way to a more elegant instrumentation. The titles of the first two songs of the album, Sa Bir and Vinushka come from the Tibetan or Russian language.

The band's style is described as " melody crossed with bordering on metalcore sections" described. While the Eröffungslied Sat Bir is an instrumental and only muffled cries are heard in the background, this style occurs in songs like Vinushka, Red Soil, stucco Man and Dozing Green with their Growling and Screaming passages obvious. The most extreme can be heard at Bugaboo, where alternate quiet, melodic vocals with deep Grow Lings this style fusion.

Toguro, Glass Skin and Ware, Yami Tote ... are very melodic, supported by tranquil vocals. Inconvenient Ideal also falls into this category, with the unplugged version is accompanied by organ. The peculiarity of Glass Skin and Dozing Green is that the lyrics on the album are entirely in English.

Reception

The album was well received by the critics. The band would deliver with Uroboros an experimental album. Was praised especially the diversity of the music and the re-use of Japanese lyrics. Given the strong publicity for the album in the United States with primarily English lyrics had been fears that this could have changed. Has been criticized on repetitive style of the songs, but what some interpreted as a strength. So the album is despite the versatility of his songs structured so that it is like listening to a single continuous song.

The album reached # 114 on the Billboard 200 album charts. It was the first time in the history of the band, that they reached a position in such music charts. In Japan, sales rose to 36,000, which was enough for a fourth place in the Oricon charts. This was the best placement of Dir en Grey since Kisou album in 2002, which took third place.

Title list

The texts were all written by Kyo. As usual, since the album Vulgar composers of the individual songs are not named, but the name of the band Dir en gray is specified.
