Ursula Apitzsch

Ursula Apitzsch ( * 1947 ) is a German political scientist and sociologist

Career

Ursula Apitzsch published in 1977 completed her dissertation at the University of Frankfurt " social theory and aesthetics of Georg Lukács to 1933 ". In 1990, her habilitation "Migration and Biography: For the constitution of Intercultural Education in the corridors of young adults of the second generation of immigrants ." Since 1998 she is member of the Board of the Cornelia Goethe Center for Women's Studies. From 1995 to 1999 she was chairman of the Section biographical research of the German Society for Sociology. To date, it is part of the Extended Board. In addition, she is a member of the Research Committee 39 of the International Sociological Association (ISA ), which deals with " Sociology & Biography". She has taught since 1993 as a professor of political science and sociology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.

Apitzsch had visiting professorships in Swansea, England (1991 ), University of California, Berkeley / USA ( 1992-93 ), Florence, Italy ( 1994), Rome, Italy (1998) and Bologna, Italy ( 1999).

Research priorities

Her research interests lie in cultural analysis, biographical research, studies on migration, ethnicity and gender.

1997 to 2001, she coordinated a research project of the European Union "Self -employment activities Concerning women and minorities. Their success or failure in relation to social citizenship policies ". Since December 2002, directs Apitzsch the international research project "The Chances of the Second Generation in Families of Ethnic Entrepreneurs: Intergenerational and Gender Aspects of Quality of Life Processes". The project is located at the Institute for Social Research at Frankfurt University and is funded by the European Union.

Moreover, it belongs to the editorial board of the prison letters of Antonio Gramsci. She has published several articles in the Journal of the argument.
