USS Bainbridge (1842)

The first USS Bainbridge was a brig with twelve guns and was laid on April 26, 1842 at Boston Navy Yard at Kiel. And on 16 December 1842 the command of ZF Johnston in service.

From September 26, 1843 until May 3, 1844 sailed the Bainbridge in the home fleet. Between June 26, 1844 to October 10, 1847, she was stationed at the Brazil Squadron. April 10, 1848 to July 2, 1850, served in the Africa Squadron. From September 1856 she drove both in Brazil as well as in Africa Squadron. The Bainbridge returned on September 10, 1856 to Norfolk.

After a dockyard period from 18 September 1856 to 28 April 1858 left the Bainbridge Hampton Roads, Virginia, to join Commodore WB Shubrick. The Bainbridge reached Asuncion, Paraguay, together with the squadron in January 1859. As of September 17, 1860 drove the Bainbridge again with the Brazil and Africa Squadron. After they reached Boston on November 9, 1860, she was decommissioned.

Back in service on 1 May 1861, the Bainbridge sailed on May 21, 1861 Gulf of Mexico and remained there until June 1862. Brought you two schooners, and was involved in the application of a steamer. On August 3, 1862, the Bainbridge sailed from New York to unite with the East Gulf Blockade Squadron off Key West, Florida.

In September 1862, it was after Aspinwall, Panama, sent, where it was caught in a heavy storm between 22 and 24 November. In this storm, she lost inter alia, Sails, cannons u.v.m.
