USS Buffalo ( SSN- 715), a hunting submarine of the Los Angeles-class was the third ship of the U.S. Navy, which bore the name of the city of Buffalo in the State of New York.

History

The construction contract for SSN -715 was on 23 February 1976 to the shipyard Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia and the unit was laid on 25 January 1980 to Kiel. Joanne Kemp led the christening, 1993, the Buffalo was put into service.

In 1999, the Buffalo was rebuilt to transport a Dry Deck Shelters (DDS). In 2002 she was transferred to dry dock the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, where an Engineered Refueling Overhaul (reactor filling ) was performed. The Buffalo became the first submarine in which these refilling its nuclear reactor took place in combination with an overhaul in Hawaii.

End of November 2005 was used by the DDS board for the first time an underwater vehicle that was used for reconnaissance and satellite-based data transfer. Mid-2006 left the Buffalo their home port and spent six months in the western Pacific. In summer 2007, the submarine finally moved to its home port of Hawaii and was stationed in Apra Harbor, Guam. 2009 was followed by a six-month overhaul at Pearl Harbor.
