The USS Bulkeley (DDG -84 ) is a destroyer of the Arleigh Burke-class. The United States Navy named the ship after the later Vice Admiral John D. Bulkeley, the Medal of Honor was awarded for his achievements in the Pacific War.

History

DDG -84 was added in 1996 in order and placed in May 1999 at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Kiel. After just over a year of construction, the pure vessel arrived in June 2000 from the pile and was baptized. The Bulkeley was provided in December 2001 after the final outfitting and sea trials the shipyard officially in service.

In 2004, the ship through its first deployment in the Persian Gulf as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. It operated on the Bulkeley on the side of the carrier USS George Washington ( CVN -73). In June 2006, the second laying began, this time as part of the battle group led by the USS Iwo Jima (LHD -7). In early 2008 began the destroyer a trip to the Mediterranean and the Middle East, this time on the side of the USS Nassau ( LHA -4).
