USS Cambridge (1860)

The USS Cambridge was built from 1859-1860 in Medford, Massachusetts, as a civilian steamship.

In July 1861 it was bought by the U.S. Navy. After conversion to a warship, the USS Cambridge took on their service and assisted in the blockade of the Atlantic Coast of the Confederacy in the American Civil War. During their period of service until 1864, she was initially part of the so-called North Atlantic Blockading Squadron, later part of the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron.

After the battles of the Civil War it was sold in June 1865. Later, until 1878, she went as a merchant ship under the name Minnetonka.
