Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park

In the province of Utrecht in the Netherlands, a wooded area, the " Utrecht Ridge " is ( in German: Utrecht Hills ) is called. It is adjacent to the natural area Gooisch Natuurreservaat ( Acc Hilversum, Prov. Northern Holland). The 60- km ² south-eastern part, in the communities Ridge, Veenendaal and Rhenen, is since 2003, includes the national park of the same name.

Landscape

The landscape consists mostly of forest. There are fewer deciduous and evergreen trees. It is in the penultimate ice age arising from a moraine, forested sand ridge. In Amerongen there are valuable wetlands that form the transition to the polders of the river Lek.

The national park is heavily used by cyclists and hikers. There are many campgrounds, inns and small hotels. Tourism is mainly aimed at the peaceful enjoyment of nature. Important landowners are, together with communities and noble families:

  • The association natural monuments ( Vereniging van dead Behoud Natuurmonumenten in Nederland)
  • The Foundation, the Utrecht Landscape ( Stichting Het Utrecht Landschap ).
