Vabis
Vabis was founded in 1891 by Surahammars Bruks AB as a factory for railway cars Vagnfabriks share Bolaget i Södertelge in Södertälje and was a Swedish manufacturer of rail vehicles, cars and trucks.
History
The expansion of the Swedish rail network around 1890 brought a great demand for rail vehicles with it. The production spectrum of the newly founded company Vagnfabriks share Bolaget I Södertelge consisted mainly of railway wagons and horse trams. In addition, the so-called Diamond - bogie was built, which is regarded as the first universal freight car bogie.
Shortly before the turn of the century, demand for rail vehicles so much that the car factory looked around for a second, future-proof production branch. In the late 1890s, the company developed several prototypes for cars and trucks and set up a production line. In 1906 the name Vabis, the abbreviation of the old company name changed.
Road vehicles
Prototypes
The engineer Gustaf Erikson developed from 1897 to 1902 several prototypes of a four-seater car, which was designated as Surahammar, with engines of his own design. One of these vehicles has been preserved and is in the Tekniska Museet in Stockholm, Sweden issued.
Series production of cars
Between 1903 and 1910, followed by more modern cars in small numbers, which were marketed as Vabis.

Fusion
Vabis merged in 1911 with Maskinfabriks AB Scania (founded in 1891 in Malmö, Skåne ) to Scania -Vabis at the company headquarters Södertälje near Stockholm.
