Vagotonia

Vagotonia ( Syn: Trophotropie, parasympatheticotonia ) refers to a state of the autonomic nervous system, in which the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system in the direction of the parasympathetic nervous system is moved. This results in a clinical syndrome with low blood pressure ( hypotension), slow pulse (bradycardia), small pupils ( miosis ) and often cold hands and feet, and occasionally listlessness. The opposite of the vagal tone is the sympatheticotonia.

The parasympathetic nervous system dominates in peace and quiet, he has an activating effect on the organs of the digestive system and provide relief to the heart. Endurance training promotes vagal tone. This makes, for example, at low pulse rates in athletes noticeable. In trained people vagotonia is not morbid, but rather beneficial and protective effect.
