Vågsøy

Vågsøy is a commune in the northwestern Norway Sogn og Fjordane county, south of Stad. Vågsøy is also the name of the largest island in the municipality. Neighboring municipalities are Selje in the north, and Vanylven oath to the east and Bremanger in the south ( beyond the fjord ).

The community center is Måløy (city status since 1997). The town hall Heradsheim was built in 1915. The municipality was in 1965 from the union of the municipalities Nord - Vågsøy and Sør- Vågsøy forth.

Traffic

The city lies on Ulvesundet, the city and the island are connected by the bridge Måløybrua to the mainland.

The ships of the Hurtigruten run Måløy firmly. A speedboat runs to Selje in the north and south to Floro and Bergen.

Economy

The main economic activities are fishing, fish farming and shipbuilding. More than 1,000 jobs are provided by the fishing industry. The local authority is measured by the quantity landed the largest fishing community in Norway ( 350,000 tons in 2002 ). In terms of sales value takes the community a 3rd place to Ålesund and Tromsø.
