Vahid Halilhodžić (* October 15, 1952 in Jablanica, SFR Yugoslavia, now Bosnia and Herzegovina ) is a former Yugoslav football player and current coach. He is considered one of the most successful Bosnian coach.

Playing career

Halilhodžić Vahid started his professional career in 1968 at Turbina Jablanica, where he played for three years. Then he moved to Velež Mostar. There he became known as a top striker. In 10 years, he completed 209 games and scored 106 goals. He also won the Yugoslav Cup. In 1981 he moved to French club FC Nantes. There he showed up just as accurate as before with Velež Mostar. In Nantes, he played 163 games and scored 93 goals. In the end he was top scorer (1983 and 1985 ) and won the Ligue 1 in 1983. Between 1986 and 1987 he played for Paris Saint- Germain, where he completed only 18 games, but scored eight goals.

National

From 1976 to 1982 he played for the Yugoslav national football team. Overall, made ​​15 games and scored eight goals in national dress.

Coaching career

His coaching career began in 1990 with Velež Mostar, where he was known as a striker only really. He remained there until 1992 trainer, until he moved in 1993 to the French club AS Beauvais, where he remained but one year only. Next he made as a coach again until 1997 with the Moroccan club Raja de Casablanca where he was with the most successful. He won there in just one year the African Super Cup in 1997, and the championship in Morocco in 1997 and 1998. Starting in 1998, he coached three different French clubs namely the OSC Lille from 1998 to 2002, Stade Rennes from 2002 to 2003 and finally at Paris Saint - Germain 2003 to 2005. using the OSC Lille, he rose in 2000 to the Ligue 1, a year later, French coach of the year. With Paris, he won the 2004 Coupe de France and was runner-up in Ligue 1 From 2005 to 2006 he coached the Turkish club Trabzonspor, then it went to Arabia to Al -Ittihad. He remained there until 2008. Then he was coach of the Ivory Coast and made ​​sure that we qualified for the World Cup 2010. But suddenly he was released on February 27, 2010, although he has only lost one game in two years.

After the dismissal of Velimir Zajec he took over the post of coach at Dinamo Zagreb. After winning with the Croatian Dinamo Double, he accepted the offer of the Algerian Football Federation to take over on 1 July 2011 as the national team coach, the Algerian team.

Others

During the Bosnian war in 1992 Halilhodžić was injured in a fight in Mostar. However, a few months later he was training again. He is married and has two children.
