The 964 km long wax (Russian Вах ) is a right tributary of the Ob in Siberia (Russia, Asia).

Course

The wax rises in the area of ​​the watershed of the Ob, Yenisei and Tas in the east of the West Siberian lowlands and flows along its entire length strongly meandering the sparsely populated taiga areas in the east of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug / Ugra. About 15 km above the Nizhnevartovsk opens here about 300 m wide and 5 m deep wax in the Ob. The flow rate in the mouth is close to 0.5 m / s

Hydrographic

The catchment area covers 76,700 km ². It is the settlement area of the eastern group of chanting. The mean monthly water levels at Lobtschinskoje ( in the middle reaches, 253 km upstream of the mouth ) is 540 m³ / s ( minimum in March: 187 m³ / s, maximum in June: 1,679 m³ / s).

Infrastructure and economy

The guard is to the mouth of the creek Sabun ( Сабун ) navigable (432 km; 6 km to arrive at Sabun from the mouth upstream to the village Larjak ). The main tributaries of the wax are Kulynigol ( Кулынигол ) Sabun and Kolikjogan ( Коликъёган; 253 km up to dock Podbasa navigable ) from the right and the Great Megtygjegan ( Большой Мегтыгъёган, Bolshoi Megtygjogan ) from the left.

In the area of ​​security - lower reaches are significant oil deposits, such as the Samotlor oil field exploitation. This is on the right bank near the mouth of the urban-type settlement Islutschinsk, a suburb of Nizhnevartovsk and only one with 16,400 inhabitants, major settlement on the river. In this area there are a few paved roads, but so far no bridge over the river. A road bridge south Islutschinsk over the connection from Nizhnevartovsk to Streschewoi in the neighboring Tomsk Oblast is under construction. So far there are in the ice-free period temporarily a pontoon bridge.
