Valbonë

Valbona ( Albanian: Valbone ) is a village in the northern Albanian Alps. It is in the district Tropoja approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Bajram Curr belongs to the municipality Margegaj. Valbona lies in the valley of the same river Valbona and is surrounded by high mountains with peaks over 2400 meters. West of the town there is a Jezerca, the second highest mountain in Albania.

In communist Albania Valbona was a resort. The holiday home was destroyed in 1997. In the meantime, however small guest farms have emerged and some residents offering accommodation in guest rooms at. Popular with tourists, the one-day hike across the Valbona Pass to Theth. The whole area around the village is part of the National Park Valbonatal.

The residents of Valbona are Catholic.

Valbona is also a popular Albanian female first name, derived from the place name.
