Valentin Erben

Valentin Erben ( born 1945 in Vienna) is an Austrian cellist and professor.

Life

After studying at Paul Freidel and Walter Reichardt, later with Tobias Kühne in Vienna and with André Navarra in Paris, Valentin Erben 1970 was a founding member of the Alban Berg Quartet, to which he belonged until its dissolution in 2008. A solo career as a cellist joined them. This led to work with actors, dancers and composers, among other things, with Johanna Doderer.

Valentin Erben taught since 1971 at the Vienna Academy of Music. Since 1993 he has been a visiting professor for chamber music at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. He also holds master classes at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and the " ProQuartet " in Paris, at the Mendelssohn Summer School Hamburg and at the Reina Sofia School of Music in Madrid. Heirs guest appearances regularly at the Heidelberger Frühling, where he also holds workshops. Meanwhile, he has been musical director of the festival. He also leads the annual Festival Les Musicales d' Orient.

In 2011, heirs played for a while in the strong trio together with the Israeli violinist Nurrit Stark and pianist Cedric Pescia.
