Valentin Hristov (weightlifter born 1956)

Valentin Hristov ( born March 15, 1956 in Pernik ) is a former Bulgarian weightlifter. He was winner of the silver medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 and world champion in 1975 and 1977 in the second heavyweight (up to 110 kg body weight).

Career

Valentin Christow was already as a 12- year-old student discovered under a large talent scout program, which was initiated by the Bulgarian national coach of the weightlifting Ivan Abadschiew, for the weight lifting. After intensive basic training Valentin Hristov already reached age 17 services with which he pushed forward to the top. At this age, he already managed 200 kg in bumping. After ending his career as an active weightlifter, he worked temporarily in leading Posititon in the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation. He is an honorary citizen of Pernik.

His first start in an international championship graduated Valentin Christow at the European Championships in Verona in the 2nd heavyweight. He managed there 387.5 kg in single combat, but had to the Soviet weightlifter Ljubomir Ustjuschin, which reached 390 kg in single combat, narrowly beaten.

In 1975, he then won his first major title. He was first in Marseille Junior World Champion in the 2nd heavy weight 405 kg in the total ( 175 kg snatch and 230 kg pushing ) and later won the World and European Championships in Moscow the world title in the same weight class with 417.5 kg (180 kg/237, 5 kg) in superior style weightlifter Vasily before the Soviet Moscheikow who came to 390 kg in the total.

After winning the European Championship 1976 in Berlin (East) 415 kg in front of Yury Zaitsev from the USSR, which reached 400 kg in the total, Valentin Hristov drove as overwhelming favorites for the Olympic Games to Montreal. He was the favorite role justice and was charged with 400 kg in the Olympic champion before Yury Zaitsev, who reached 385 kg in the total. He was exposed immediately after the competitions as doping offenders and had to give up his gold medal again.

After only one year lock he could go to the World and European Championships 1977 in Stuttgart again at the start. He won there in the second heavyweight 405 kg in front of Yury Zaitsev 395 kg. In 1978 Valentin Hristov paused. But in the years 1979 and 1980 he reappeared at the international championships, but only reached more second places. So he came at the European Championships in 1979 in Salonika in the 2nd focusing on 402.5 kilograms and had to Sergei Arakelow from the Soviet Union, which reached 410 kg in single combat, defeated. At the European Championships 1980 in Belgrade, he lost to Leonid Taranenko from the USSR, who won 420 kg in the total and was also at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow Leonid Taranenko with 422.5 kg far ahead of him. Valentin Hristov managed in Moscow 405 kg in the total.

After the 1980 Olympic Games Valentine Christow stepped back from weightlifting. The ten world records achieved Valentin Christow in his career, were in the 1990s, when increased doping controls led to that the performance of weightlifters generally declined, canceled. Then The International Weightlifting Federation carried out a new weight class division.
