Valeri Liukin

Valeri Viktorovich Ljukin, (Russian Валерий Викторович Люкин; born December 17, 1966 in Aktobe, Kazakh SSR ) is a retired Soviet gymnast and current coach.

In 1987 he became the first worldwide Turner at an official competition in gymnastics after a Radwende a triple somersault. Until then double somersaults were in the floor exercise as the highest performance.

Ljukin did gymnastics for the sports club Dinamo Alma- Ata and was in the 1980s, the most successful gymnasts of the Soviet Union. In 1988, he won Olympic victories with the team as well as on the high bar. He was trained by Edward Jarow. Until 1994, followed by numerous other medals and awards. Among other things, he was awarded " Honored Master of Sports."

Today Ljukin lives in Plano, Texas, United States, and owns and operates the former sports acrobats Yevgeny Marchenko a gymnastic school, the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy ( WOGA ). In the WOGA he trained, among others, the all-around Olympic champion from 2004 Carly Patterson. He is married to the former gymnast Anna Kotschnewa. The couple has a daughter who gymnast Nastia Liukin, who trains Valeri Ljukin itself. 2005 Valeri Ljukin was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
