Valeriy Pustovoitenko

Valery Pawlowytsch Pustowoitenko (Ukrainian Валерій Павлович Пустовойтенко, scientific transliteration Valery Pavlovyč Pustovojtenko; born February 23, 1947 in Adamiwka, Mykolaiv Oblast ) was from July 16, 1997 to December 22, 1999 Prime Minister of Ukraine.

Valery Pustowoitenko was born on 23 February 1947 as a son of a farmer. He attended the Odessa Industrial School No. 9 and the Odessa Polytechnic Institute and the Civilian Technical Institute in Dnepropetrovsk. In 1984 he became director of industrial plant Dniprobudmechanisazija. Since 1987 he worked in the city administration of Dnipropetrovsk.

In March 1990 he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada, the Parliament of Ukraine. From April to September 1993 and from July 1994 to July 1997 he was a member of the Government Cabinet of Ukraine. From October 1993 to July 1994 he was deputy director of a private bank.

On 16 July 1997 Pustowoitenko Prime Minister of Ukraine. In 1999, after the inauguration of President Leonid Kuchma, who was re-elected that year, entered Pustowoitenko constitutional back with his Cabinet. After that, he was politically active. In the cabinet of Prime Minister Anatoly Kinakh he held the office of Minister of Transport.

Pustowoitenko been since the founding of the People's Democratic Party of Ukraine (NPD ) whose leader, before his election as Prime Minister, and after 2000 also its chairman. When the block party alliance of the People Democratic Party under the leadership of the NPD in the parliamentary elections of 2006, less than 1 % of the vote, which by that office resigned.
