Valery Afanassiev

Valery Pavlovich Afanasyev (Russian Валерий Павлович Афанасьев; born September 8, 1947 in Moscow ) is a Russian pianist.

Life

Valery Afanasyev was trained at the Moscow Conservatory of Emil Gilels. In 1969 he was a prizewinner at the Bach Competition in Leipzig, three years later at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. Afanasyev 1974 left Russia and settled in Belgium, now he lives in Paris. In addition to his musical activities Afanasyev is also the author of novels.
