Vallerois-le-Bois

Vallerois -le- Bois is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vallerois -le- Bois is situated at an altitude of 310 m above sea level, about 13 km southeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The scattered village stretches along the southern edge of the basin of Vallerois, north of the river valley Ognon, between the forest heights of the Bois de la Cote in the south and the Montcuchot in the northwest.

The area of ​​12.59 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of the south and Ognon Saône in the northwest. The main part of the area is taken from the basin of Vallerois, which is an average 290 m. It has a width of 3 km and a length of 5 km and is used mainly for agricultural purposes. For drainage to the southwest to Linotte the Ruisseau de la Grange- Lambert makes. Otherwise, there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

The basin is surrounded by plateau-like hills, which are composed mainly with forest and reach heights between 350 and 400 m. In the north, Bois extends the community site in the Bois de l' Engorgié, in the east to the Grands. To the south slope rises steeply to the plateau of the Bois de la Côte and the Bois de Chassey. Here the highest elevation of Vallerois -le- Bois is achieved with 401 m. On the south are the headwaters of the Linotte whose system of valleys cut into the limestone of the middle and upper Jurassic period.

To Vallerois -le- Bois addition to the actual site include various hamlets and settlements of, including:

  • Baslières (315 m) on the southern edge of the basin of Vallerois
  • Montépenoux (295 m) on the northern edge of the basin of Vallerois

Neighboring communities of Vallerois -le- Bois are Noroy -le- Bourg and Cerre -lès- Noroy in the north, Borey and Esprels in the east, Chassey -lès- Montbozon in the south and Dampierre -sur- Linotte in the West.

History

Various tracks from the Gallo- Roman period indicate that the municipality of Vallerois was inhabited very early. In the Middle Ages Vallerois belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. It formed its own rule, which belonged in the 14th century, the Mont rust family. The Abbey Bellefaux had land on the communal land. Together with the Franche -Comté Vallerois came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

To a field change occurred in 1808, when the previously independent municipality was merged Baslières ( first mentioned in 1131 ) with Vallerois -le -Bois. In the second half of the 19th century the village was connected with the opening of the railway line from Vesoul after Montbozon to the French railway network. The operation of the line, however, was set back in the 20th century. Today Vallerois -le- Bois is a member of the comprehensive twelve towns municipal association Communauté de communes des Grands Bois.

Attractions

The village church of Vallerois -le- Bois was extensively rebuilt in 1853. The preserved only the choir room from the old building from the 16th century. In-room amenities include a baptismal font from the 17th century and furnishings from the 18th century. The partially conceived in disrepair Château de Vallerois originated in the Middle Ages. The keep showing parts of the 12th and 15th centuries, while the residential buildings dating from the Renaissance period. A restoration of the monument is in progress.

Population

With 262 inhabitants ( 2005) Vallerois -le- Bois is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 603 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Vallerois -le- Bois was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are now various operations of small businesses, especially in the engineering and precision mechanics. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road D9, which runs from Vesoul to Villers Exel. Further road links exist with Montbozon, Noroy -le- Bourg and Borey.
