Van Vleck (crater)

Van Vleck is an impact crater on the eastern limb of the Moon front, west of Mare Smythii, northeast of the great crater Gilbert and deal overall southeast of Weierstrass. The rim is round and slightly eroded, along the inner edge there is concentric landslides, the crater floor is level.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1976 after the American astronomer John Monroe Van Vleck. Previously, the crater was known as the Gilbert M.
