Vanellus

Bronze Lapwing ( V. chilensis )

Lapwings (Vanellus ) are a species of bird from the family of plovers ( Charadriidae ). In Central Europe, breeds only one species of this genus, namely the European Lapwing.

Lapwings usually stay on in an open area. They generally live on the edge of lakes, rivers or wetlands. But they are also found on cultivated land as fields and meadows. They are very noisy birds. Among the most endangered species within the genus is one of the Sociable Lapwing, probably exist of which only 200 breeding pairs.
